POSITION SUMMARY
This internship provides a good foundation for many future positions within our businesses. While being interns, associates learn how to reduce production hardware/software problems and oversee equipment installations to increase system capacity and availability. Associates will have the opportunity to learn and work through the project development lifecycle depending on their specific role. They will interact with a cross functional team to accomplish deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS  >>

  • Junior status (in final summer before graduation)
  • Computer science or related major
  • Strong academic performance. Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Dedication to customer service
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Goal / results orientation
  • Permanent Employment Authorization/U.S. Citizenship

RESPONSIBILITIES  >>

  • Works on assigned various projects, cross-functional project teams, manages meetings, tracks tasks and progress, resolves development issues during project process to ensure timely implementation and performs project follow-up as required
  • Participates in the analysis of vendor products (hardware and software) determining associated costs, functionality, and benefits. Provide input to recommendations and prepares comparison analysis for corporate review
  • Participates in project cost analysis and preparation of Economic Justification Assessment for capital projects
  • Analyzes existing processes, using industry standards, identifying potentials for improvement and charting progress during improvement phase
  • If pursuing technical role, will perform system design and development for system projects, working with Information Technology staff, clients and vendors
  • If pursuing Analytical role, will be engaged in business process analysis and modeling, defining business requirements and interacting with business and IT teams to complete deliverables
  • Tracks system project requests. Obtains request justification and system estimates working with client and corresponding team leader. Interfaces with Systems Planning to incorporate systems requests, and corresponding resource estimates, into overall project plan for Kmart Information Technology
  • Develops and delivers presentations to company management for various assigned system projects
  • Performs continual evaluation of retail industry trends and competitor practices
