Resume & Interview Tips
Resume Tips
The first step to starting your job search is updating your resume. This is your chance to describe your greatest achievements and skills in a page or two. A good resume can get your foot in the door and stir up interest while an unimpressive one can leave you overlooked and your qualifications poorly communicated. Want to make your resume shine? Look at the below tips to help yours leave an impression.
1. Determine your area of interest and your qualifications
What do you enjoy doing and what makes you good at it?
2. Determine a format, Chronological or Functional
Chronological (preferred)
Doesn’t have to be complete but covers development of experiences
Functional
Lists duties and experiences that relate to the job your applying for
3. Quantify your accomplishments
Documented evaluations can be your best friend. Be sure to mention number of people under you, main duties, and performance-related results.
Focus on the results of your duties
4. Use action words
Doing so gives your resume more of a dynamic feel, gives life to your accomplishments
5. Attach a cover letter clarifying your employment availability date, your top 3 geographical preferences, and how your military experience can translate to a successful career with Sears Holdings Corporation
Interview Tips
Interviewing can be a stressful process. Coming across as the asset you are can be difficult, especially when you're on the spot. If you want to make the best impression you can, try some of the following tips.
Know your resume
Be able to give a summary of your resume and why you’re the best man or woman for the job
Describe your education and why you joined the military
Do your homework
Know about the company, visit our stores, look through our financial statements. Get to know the company you want to work for.
Ask Questions
Remember an interview is double sided. We want to make sure you want to work here as much as we want you to work here, ask questions to find out if the job is really for you.
Follow up
Make sure you highlight the skills that set you apart that you may not have gotten to talk about in the interview, and revisit relevant topics that were discussed as well.
