We have established a Community Residency Program in partnership with a local university in Richmond, Virginia. Our innovative Kare Center allows us the ability to promote wellness in the community. From cholesterol screenings to diabetes care and other disease states, this team is leading the way in establishing disease state management programs in a community setting. We recognize the future of pharmacy by our continued support of this innovative program.

We are committed to safe, accurate and reliable prescription processing. Through our “KARxE” Program, our quality assurance program, our pharmacists use prospective drug utilization review and comprehensive patient counseling to facilitate our pharmacy teams in providing the industry’s standard of care. Our KARxE Program incorporates a systematic workflow prescription filling process with multi-step checking and documenting system to assure safe, reliable and accurate prescription processing and centers on allowing our pharmacists additional time for patient counseling and interaction.

We host 4 Healthcare In Store Events in all Pharmacy stores throughout the chain. The events include a Heart Health Event in February, a Diabetes Education Event in April and September, and a Gold K event November. Our pharmacists partner with local health care providers to help educate our patients about disease state management and healthier lifestyles. We provide patient services, such as: Blood Pressure Screenings, Medication Reviews, Body Mass Index Screenings, Glucose Meter Demonstrations, Memory Screenings as well as patient education to assist patients in managing their disease state.

While these clinics can improve the health of our patients, they have also proven to help our pharmacists become much more involved with their patients healthcare concerns.

We are committed to improving the health of our patients. To demonstrate this commitment, we have built partnerships with healthcare organizations to deliver face-to-face and phone consultations to our patients in an effort to reduce risk of adverse events and optimize therapeutic outcomes. Consultations are dependant upon patients’ specific needs but may include drug interaction resolution, new prescription monitoring, therapeutic duplication resolutions, comprehensive medication reviews, compliance interventions, etc.

Recognizing patient compliance as a major challenge for all pharmacists as well as its impact on our patients health outcomes, we recently partnered with a large pharmaceutical manufacturer to deliver therapy-specific consultations to drive patient compliance and help improve prescription non-adherence.

Our goal is to be recognized as a premier provider of these services in the healthcare marketplace. Today, we have approximately nearly 1,000 pharmacists trained to deliver these services across more than half of our pharmacies or store base.

In the fall of 2008, Kmart Pharmacy is conducting over 900 flu shot clinics with our pharmacists giving the vaccine at Kmart and Sears stores. Patients enjoy the convenience of flu shot clinics in our many locations, while our pharmacists enjoy the personal interaction with their customers. In our 900 clinics, in the fall of 2008, we expect to give over 75,000 vaccinations.
