Sears Holdings’ retail stores have been merchants to America for more than 110 years. Sears began as an early partnership between a railroad station agent and a watchmaker in Chicago. Kmart began as S.S. Kresge Co. back in 1899. The first Kmart store opened in 1962 in Garden City, Michigan. The rich heritage and history of the two retailers along with other businesses such as Lands’ End, The Great Indoors and Orchard Supply Hardware have made the retail landscape rich with both innovation and tradition.
