Sears Holdings Ability Network

Formation

The DisAbled Associates Network was formed in August 2001 by a small, dedicated group of associates with disabilities who were driven to provide support for colleagues, address misconceptions, and highlight their abilities and similarities to other associates. It was renamed The Ability Network or AbleNet to emphasize associates’ abilities.

Purpose

The Ability Network is committed to be a relevant and proactive channel for maximizing the unique attributes and contributions of associates with disabilities at Sears Holdings for the benefit of our company, our community and each other.

Mission

To have the customer who is disabled become a recognized and important segment of the overall Sears Holdings marketing strategy.

  • To help associates with disabilities maximize their potential and be successful.
  • To see that associates with disabilities are recognized as an integral part of the success of Sears Holdings, and to attract more qualified and diverse talent.
  • To have a positive impact on the broader community of the disabled, their family and friends.

Objectives

  • To improve the shopping experience of the customer who is disabled through the use of the Customer Care Network hotline.
  • To help establish a more streamlined accommodations process to provide hardware/software accessibility solutions.
  • To provide the Recruiting Department with the top resources for recruiting qualified candidates who are also disabled.
