Celebrating Pets! Select Kmart Stores to Offer Pet Health Check and Adoption Programs for National Pet Month

Pets are increasingly important members of today's families. They are living indoors in record numbers, going to the pet spa, doggie daycare and pet psychologist and even celebrating birthdays with a party. In recognition of our customers' growing concern for the health and happiness of their pets and to support local pet shelters, select Kmart stores will be offering pet health check and adoption programs in May to celebrate National Pet Month.

Participating Kmart stores nationwide will partner with local shelters to host pet adoption drives on Saturday, May 19, and offer free health checks (with local veterinarians) and advice on the care of pets the following week, on Saturday, May 26.

"We know that pets are more and more important in the lives of our customers, and we're responding," said Peter Whitsett, senior vice president, merchandising officer, Sears Holdings. "In addition to the adoption and vet check programs in May, Kmart has introduced a new line of pet food and products called Champion Breed and offers discounted pet medications through our pharmacy. Customers can save money without compromising on quality on items for some of the most beloved members of the family."

Champion Breed™, Kmart's new line of private label pet products for dogs and cats, includes food, treats, toys, and litter. The formulations compare to leading national brands, but are sold at competitive prices. The products are being introduced now at Kmart stores all over the country.

In addition, Pedigree is offering a free month's supply of dog food to all Kmart customers who adopt a dog in the month of May at the Kmart events or any local shelter. To redeem the offer, customers need to show a copy of adoption papers at checkout.
