Sears Unveils First Off-Mall, Full-Line Store to Enhance Customer Convenience

The First of Five Pilot Stores, Sears Grand Offers the Best of Sears Plus More ... Conveniently Closer to Home

Sears Grand, an off-mall concept complementary to Sears' mall-based Full-line stores, will debut October 11 when the retailer unveils its first pilot store at 7453 S. Plaza Center Dr., just west of Bangerter Highway in West Jordan.

Based on customer need and feedback, Sears Grand will offer a new shopping experience with a mix of products and services unique in the industry. In addition to carrying everything a Sears Full-line store offers, Sears Grand also will provide convenience-inspired goods in a location located closer to more customers' homes.

"We're building this store 'from the customer up' and providing those everyday solutions she's told us she needs as part of her busy life," said Jerry Post, senior vice president for growth strategy, Sears, Roebuck and Co. "Everything about this new store -- the location, the layout, the merchandise and services -- has been designed from the customers' point of view."

As part of being the one-stop home and family center, Sears Grand maximizes the retailer's strengths -- like its comprehensive mix of high- quality proprietary and national brands, including Lands' End, Craftsman, Kenmore, Cuisinart, Bose, Nike and Whirlpool, complimented by related services found only at Sears.

The store's vast assortment of quality products and services differentiate it from other mass-merchandisers. For example, Sears Grand will carry refrigerators and milk, microwaves and soup, lawn mowers and fertilizer, clothes and laundry detergent.

The store's unique product and service offering also will enable busy families to accomplish more than just completing their shopping in one place. While browsing hundreds of national and Sears-exclusive brands or perusing the garden center, Sears Grand customers can also have their car serviced, get their eyes examined, sip a cup of coffee at the cafe, have keys made, get window blinds cut or have custom paint mixed.

Sears Grand customers also will benefit from working with the most knowledgeable appliance associates in the industry. They match the perfect appliance with each customer's individual situation.

"We are pleased to bring this exciting new format to West Jordan, the fastest growing community in the state," said Kelly Mulherin, Sears Grand store manager. "We'll offer a unique mix of merchandise and services that will provide a convenient and fun way to meet the needs of West Jordan families."

Sears Grand will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

A second pilot store, Sears Grand at Gurnee Mills, is slated to open in spring 2004 in suburban Chicago and a third store is expected to open in Las Vegas in fall 2004.
