Sears Names Huntington Beach Native Todd Talbert Sears Good Life Alliance Community Hero

Talbert to be Featured in 53 Million Sears Sunday Circulars

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) has named Huntington Beach native Todd Talbert, an associate at the Orchard Supply Hardware store on Golden West street, its Sears Good Life Alliance Community Hero and will feature Talbert in 53 million Sears Sunday circulars on August 19. Talbert is being honored for contributing more than 60 hours each month to youth sports in his local community in California. One of Talbert's favorite volunteer activities is coaching the Huntington Valley Little League. He also coaches roller hockey at his local Boys and Girls Club and volunteers with the local Cub Scouts. Talbert was named the Sears Volunteer of the Year in 1999.

The Sears Good Life Alliance Community Hero program was launched in June 2001 to honor Sears associates and retirees who have a positive impact on their communities and/or youth through volunteerism and community involvement. In addition to being featured in Sears Sunday circulars, the company makes a contribution to the Hero's nonprofit organization of choice.

"I enjoy creating a positive experience for children through sports and recreation and try hard to make a difference in their lives," says Talbert, the father of three boys. "I am proud to work for a company like Sears that shares my passion for helping others and my commitment to community involvement. Sears understands the importance of giving back to our communities through the Sears Good Life Alliance."

Each month, the Sears Good Life Alliance Community Hero program recognizes one of nearly 300,000 Sears associates and 140,000 retirees for outstanding dedication to the community and/or youth.

The Sears Good Life Alliance Community Hero program is part of the Sears Good Life Alliance, a partnership between Sears, America's Promise and the Points of Light Foundation. Working on the local level through the Volunteer Center National Network and Communities of Promise, these organizations partner with Sears business units to bring the Sears Good Life Alliance to life in communities nationwide. The Sears Good Life Alliance seeks to engage Sears associates, their families, customers, vendors and retirees in volunteer initiatives that support local youth and their communities. The Sears Good Life Alliance expands on Sears philanthropic tradition through its pledge of one million volunteer hours by the end of 2002. Since the inception of the Sears Good Life Alliance in 2000, Sears volunteers have logged more than 540,000 hours.
