Kmart Announces Retirement of Nancie LaDuke, Vice President and Secretary; Jim Defebaugh Selected to Fill Post

Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today announced that its Vice President and Secretary, Nancie LaDuke, will retire effective Feb. 1, 2001, and that Jim Defebaugh has been selected to fill the post, also effective Feb. 1.

LaDuke joined Kmart in 1977 serving as Commercial Law Attorney and then Commercial Law Counsel, prior to being promoted to Vice President and Secretary in 1991. She has been responsible for Kmart's Commercial Law, Intellectual Property and Trade Regulation legal matters as well as Board of Directors activities.

In announcing the retirement, Kmart's Executive Vice President Human Resources, David Rots said, "Nancie LaDuke has been a strong contributor to Kmart throughout her 23-year career including service as interim General Counsel. We are grateful for her legal counsel and wish Nancie the very best in her retirement."

Defebaugh joined Kmart in August 1983 as Commercial Law Attorney and was named Divisional Counsel, Commercial Law in February 1992. Prior to joining Kmart, he was in private law practice. Defebaugh received a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University and his law degree from Wayne State University.
