Kmart Names New Vice President Human Resources

Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today announced the appointment of Valeria Jewell Stokes, Ed.D., to Vice President Human Resources-Corporate, effective immediately.

Reporting directly to David Rots, Kmart Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Administration, Stokes will be responsible for corporate staff human resources, diversity, business services and executive recruiting.

"Valeria Jewell Stokes is a high energy human resource professional who will bring extensive experience to her new post. As we continue to build a customer-centric culture at Kmart, her ideas and best practices will reinforce our strategy to become a world-class retailer," said Rots.

Prior to joining Kmart, Stokes served as Vice President, ACCO World Learning & Organizational Development, a subsidiary of Fortune Brands and the world's largest office products manufacturer, where she directed strategy and development of all corporate learning and organizational planning, communication and e-learning initiatives. From 1994-1996, Stokes held the position of Management and Executive Consultant for Sears Roebuck and Co. where she designed and directed education and consultative functions including the development and launch of Sears University. She also has held human resource development and education positions with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, Noyes & Associates and Rush- Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, Chicago.

Stokes received a Bachelor of Science degree from Creighton University, Omaha; a Master of Science from University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha; and a Doctorate degree in Adult Continuing Education, Human Resource and Organizational Development from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill.
