Sears Holdings Helps Americans Reduce Their Homes' Carbon Footprint

New Online Resources Offer Eco-friendly Products and Tips to Live a Greener Life

Ushering in a sense of renewal, spring's arrival also brings with it an opportunity for Americans to find easy ways to reduce their carbon footprint and increase their home's energy efficiency. Sears Holdings today introduced Sears.com/green and Kmart.com/green - new online resources to give Americans the tools to reduce their carbon footprint in every room of the home.

"As the leading retailer of ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances, Sears' focus has long been on supporting our customers as they strive to live greener lives," said Don Hamblen, Sears' chief marketing officer. "Sears Holdings' new green Web sites serve as tools for our valued customers to learn more about the latest green products, services and solutions to help save money and the environment."

Sears.com/green and Kmart.com/green provide an interactive map of the home with room-by-room options, from the attic to the living room to the basement, with tips for making homes more energy efficient. The Web sites simplify the process for their customers with additional information, including:

-- Tips by climate zone: Provides information for making homes in the
five climate zones more energy efficient. Now, it does not matter
whether online savants live in the north or south, Sears and Kmart
have geographically customized the resources needed to help customers
save water, energy and money in their homes.
-- Eco-friendly kids' tools and games: Kids have the chance to be
involved in making their homes greener and learn how to avoid being a
litterbug with an eco-checklist and kid-ready tips for being energy
      efficient.
-- Recycling center: Compiles the must-have know-how on responsible
disposal of appliances, batteries and paint. In addition, it provides
information on Sears' haul-away program to ensure that everyone has
the resources available to live greener and more responsibly, even
with old and used products. The site also educates customers about how
Sears recycles their old automotive battery when they buy a new one.

-- Eco-friendly products: The "Shop Green" tab on Sears.com/green
provides quick access for customers to learn more about products like
      Craftsman's battery-powered lawn mowers and propane-powered line
trimmers, as well as organic mattresses and ENERGY STAR-rated
      appliances and electronics.

"Sears and Kmart's sustainability efforts did not stop at just providing information on how to live greener. We combated the misconception that it costs more 'green' to 'go green' with relevant, applicable ideas for any family," said Mark Snyder, Kmart chief marketing officer. "Not only do both Web sites showcase green products that are categorized to green the home, green our customers' lives and green their yards, Sears Holdings sees living greener as a means to enrich the entire family, by getting everyone involved."

Not only does Sears offer the broadest selection of ENERGY STAR-qualified products ranging from refrigerators to washers and dryers as well as exclusive brands such as Kenmore and Craftsman that are environmentally friendly, the retailer also provides:

-- Recycling: Sears was the first retailer to participate in the
Environmental Protection Agency's Responsible Appliance Disposal
program, ensuring proper and green disposal of appliances for customer
      haul-aways.
-- Green reward program: Incents Sears shoppers to choose
environmentally-friendly purchases through Green Reward Card. When
customers purchase a Kenmore Elite Grill and the delivery/haul-away
feature throughout the first two weeks of May, they will receive a $10
      Green Reward Card.

-- Home Service solutions and product maintenance programs: Helps ensure
customers can achieve a more eco-friendly home through Home Service
Energy Audits (available only in Southern California) that identify
ways to create a healthier, more-sustainable living environment and
enable customers to save up to 40 percent on their energy bills.

Sears is offering a variety of discounts and services on energy-efficient products now through Tuesday, June 30. Visit Sears.com, Kmart.com or visit a local store for more details.
