Kmart to Open for Pre-Christmas 64-Hour-Sale

Most stores open 24 hours Dec. 22 to Dec. 24

Still need those last- minute gifts? Run out of tape or wrapping paper in the middle of the night? Today Kmart announced its first-ever 64-hour sale, beginning at 6 a.m. on December 22 and concluding at 10 p.m. on December 24.

"More customers are waiting until the last minute to buy Christmas gifts, so we're trying to make it as easy on them as we can," said Don Germano, Senior vice president of Kmart stores. "We have a great selection of holiday gifts, from the best names in home electronics and gaming systems to Martha Stewart Everyday decorations and the hottest toys, all at great values."

A survey this week from the National Retail Federation suggests that only one in five men have started Christmas shopping, and more than 35 million shoppers have yet to purchase a gift.

The only other time Kmart has been open 24 hours (other than 24-hour stores) was during the 2002 holiday season.

The sale will take place in more than 1,000 of the 1,387 Kmart stores, depending on local restrictions.

The mid-week circular on December 20 will provide more details about the sale, and will include additional apparel savings coupons for late- night/early-morning shoppers during the sale.
