KMART CORPORATION REPORTS FEBRUARY SALES RESULTS

TROY, Mich., March 2, 2000 -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today reported that February consolidated sales increased 2.7% on a comparable store basis. Total consolidated sales increased 4.0% to $2.371 billion for the four-week period ended February 23, 2000 compared with $2.279 billion for the same period last year

"February comparable sales were slightly below plan, predominately due to continued cooler weather in our southern regions,” said Floyd Hall, Chairman, President, and CEO of Kmart. “Categories showing particular strength included home appliances, housewares, electronics, home décor, seasonal, do-it-yourself, jewelry, cosmetics and fragrances, fashion accessories, and pharmaceuticals."
